Hi, I'm David Perez, a Sr Product Designer based in NYC.

I aim to create user-friendly products that solve complex problems and improve people's lives. I have experience working with design teams from small startups to large global companies across different industries.

What I love about design is that it's a continuous puzzle that keeps me learning and growing. In my spare time you can find me in a bodega ordering a sausage egg and cheese sandwich or out and about with my dog Tux.

I appreciate you taking the time to check out my portfolio. If you have any questions or want to chat, don't hesitate to reach out.

My Process

Discovery

  • Who am I designing for?

  • What is the perceived problem?

  • How are they solving this now?

The first step in my approach is to familiarize myself with the users, the business and any existing solutions. I analyze user statistics, documentation, run user research (focus groups, user interviews, surveys, etc), market research, track workflows, and start forming personas.

Define

  • What is the true problem or need?

  • Why is this important to solve?

My next step is to extract key pain-points from my research. This helps us laser-in on the issues at hand and allows us to track success.

I work closely with leadership to review these insights and align on vision, objective and overall plan.

Ideate & Validate

  • What will be our approach?

  • How will we advocate for the user?

Here I map out new workflows (information architecture) and design concepts for internal review. Once we agree on some concepts, I validate them with end users, key stakeholders and subject matter experts. I iterate based on their feedback and share new versions internally. This process is repeated until we converge on a final design.

Prototype

  • Will we be introducing new patterns?

  • Will we be adding new components?

  • Which flows need to be prototyped?

I demo the final prototypes with the product and engineering teams and provide design specifications so developers are able to build the expected user experience.

Learn

I review the final design of new builds, facilitate demos with leadership and stakeholders, answer any design related questions, and track incoming feedback or feature requests.

After the final product is released to production, I collaborate with the PMs to evaluate success via KPIs and identify new opportunities for improvement.

Engineering Program Manager

"I worked with David on an internal program management tool at Apple. The tool had a lot issues, and it was hard to get teams to use it. David did a great job at working with me to understand how I did my job & the kinds of features that would help the tool make the team more effective & efficient.

He had similar interactions with EPMs from various groups at the company, so he could provide a tool that was useful to all groups instead of focusing on one narrow group of users & teams. I enjoyed working with David & using the tool he helped bring to life, and would be glad to work with him again in the future!"
